Free Chlorine Secondary Disinfection

The UWSS will now be permanently using free chlorine for its secondary disinfection process until further notice.  This will cover all of the UWSS service area, which includes the Municipality of Leamington, the Town of Kingsville, and parts of the Town of Essex and the Town of Lakeshore.  The Ministry of Environment has approved this switch.

Free Chlorine secondary disinfection is one of the methods that is Ministry of Environment approved for this purpose.  During this temporary switch in secondary disinfection, some  people may experience a more noticeable chlorine taste and smell to the water.  This is normal and not a cause for concern in regards to drinking water safety.  For further understanding of this process please see the News Release and Frequently Asked Questions.
