The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) protects and manages water quality in the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes are essential for Canadians, especially those that live in close proximity to them, for source drinking water as well as economic prosperity . The Governments of Canada and Ontario have released the final Lake Erie Action Plan.
Over 120 actions have been been identified to restore Lake Erie to health with the Lake Erie Action Plan. The federal, provincial and partner actions will assist in achieving the goal of reducing phosphorus in Lake Erie by 40%, thereby reducing the algae blooms that form each summer. The action plan will be continually reviewed and revised as needed to ensure that he targets are achieved.
